Ukrainian Drone Attack Sets Russia’s Ust-Luga Port Ablaze Overnight

A fire broke out at the Ust-Luga port in northwestern Russia overnight on August 14 following a reported drone attack.
Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko said the fire was caused by damage sustained during the attack and that emergency crews were working to extinguish the blaze.

“Following the damage, a fire was reported at the Ust-Luga port. Specialists have begun extinguishing it. Combat operations are ongoing,” Drozdenko said.
By 6:21 a.m. local time, he claimed that 51 drones had been shot down over the Leningrad region.
The attack also affected air traffic in the region. According to Fontanka, St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport began operating under restrictions from around 3 a.m., with delays reported for some flights.

About Ust-Luga port
Russia’s Ust-Luga is the Baltic Sea’s second-largest and most technologically advanced seaport, and ranks among the largest ports in Europe.
Although the facility handles a range of cargo, its main role is the export of crude oil and petroleum products. Ust-Luga also serves as the endpoint of the Baltic Pipeline System-II (BPS-II).
The port is situated in Luga Bay on the Gulf of Finland, about 110 kilometers from St. Petersburg and close to the Estonian border.
The August 14 incident was not the first reported attack on infrastructure at Ust-Luga. On the night of March 24–25, strike drones targeted the Gazprom Ust-Luga gas processing plant in the Leningrad region, according to Militarnyi.
The facility, located roughly 1,000 kilometers from Ukraine’s border, was reportedly hit by at least 10 explosions. Local residents described a large glow in the night sky, followed by a column of black smoke visible after dawn.
