Ukrainian Drones Hunt Down Hidden Russian T-72 Tank and D-30 Howitzer

Ukrainian forces destroyed a Russian T-72 tank and a D-30 howitzer in the Donbas region after detecting the equipment concealed in a wooded area, Ukraine’s 40th Separate Marine Brigade reported on September 21.

According to footage released by the brigade, drone operators from its Orion Unmanned Systems Battalion identified the Russian armored vehicle and artillery system before carrying out precision strikes.
“Fighters of the Orion Unmanned Systems Battalion of the 40th Separate Marine Brigade destroyed an enemy T-72 tank and a D-30 gun. Our UAV operators in the Donbas detected enemy armored vehicles and carried out a precise strike,” the brigade said.
The latest strikes follow other recent Ukrainian drone operations targeting concealed Russian armored vehicles and equipment. On February 15, Ukrainian forces destroyed another Russian T-72 tank near the settlement of Yampil in a coordinated operation involving several military units.
The tank was initially disabled by a precision strike before Ukrainian forces launched a series of additional attacks to destroy the vehicle. Footage released by the Apachi Battalion of the 81st Separate Airmobile Slobozhanska Brigade showed a final drone carrying a napalm payload striking the immobilized tank and setting it ablaze, leaving the vehicle extensively burned.
In a separate operation, Ukrainian drone operators located and struck Russian armored vehicles concealed from aerial reconnaissance, destroying an infantry fighting vehicle hidden inside a hangar and damaging a tank, according to footage released by the Pentagon unmanned aviation battalion of the 225th Separate Assault Brigade.
The battalion said that difficult winter weather, including strong winds, precipitation, and poor visibility, had complicated aerial reconnaissance along the frontline. Despite those conditions, the unit said its drone operations continued at full intensity.
