EU Open to Fast Tracking 2027 Military Support for Ukraine

European Union officials are open to starting early preparation for military aid packages intended for 2027 following requests from Kyiv, according to Suspilne news on September 29.
European Commission spokespeople confirmed that Brussels has approved all planned military product delivery schedules for this year, totaling €28.3 billion ($31.6 billion) in defense support, and may review plans for coming years as new details emerge.

During talks in Brussels on September 28, Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhii Marchenko urged the European Commission to begin regulatory and technical preparation as soon as possible to ensure defense equipment scheduled for 2027 arrives on time, as reported by Suspilne news.
He emphasized that early organization in 2026 is necessary to secure required weapon deliveries without seeking early disbursement of the actual funds.
“I don't mean early disbursement of funds. I mean preparing all regulatory acts and documents necessary so that we can count on all the weapons Ukraine needs being delivered. For the necessary weapons to be delivered in 2027, we need to organize everything back in 2026,” Marchenko said.
European Commission spokesperson Balazs Ujvari stated in response that such an option is under consideration.
“At the moment, we have approved all product delivery schedules for this year in the amount of $31.6 billion to support defense. So we have no unresolved issues, but if we receive additional information regarding next year, we will likely consider it,” Ujvari noted, as reported by Suspilne news.
Chief Spokesperson for the European Commission Paula Pinho reiterated that Brussels remains on schedule and continues to fulfill its commitments.
“We are quickly going through all necessary stages in the established order. This takes time, and so far we are sticking to the schedule for fulfilling our commitments, so we will continue at this pace,” Pinho added.
The Commission earlier cleared Ukraine's first official request to finance Patriot interceptor missiles through a loan, including purchases from suppliers outside the bloc, after Kyiv filed an application seeking more than $2.3 billion under a mechanism that permits non-EU procurement when European producers cannot cover a need in sufficient quantity.
