Germany Sends Ukraine Firefighting Robots Built for Operations in Dangerous Environments

On August 11, Germany provided Ukraine's State Emergency Service with a package of equipment that includes robotic systems for firefighting and operations in hazardous conditions.

The German Embassy in Ukraine announced the transfer in comments to European Pravda on the same day.

The embassy detailed that the robotic complexes include the Alpha Robotics Wolf R1, the LUF 60, the LUF-CRV, and the Magirus AirCore TAF60.

Each is built to fight fires and operate in dangerous conditions. Berlin also handed over fire tanker trucks, a heavy evacuation tractor, and trucks fitted with crane manipulators.

The delivery also included buses and minibusses to transport personnel, portable fire pumps, booster pumps, and personal protective equipment for rescuers.

The package forms part of the broader support Germany has extended to the State Emergency Service since 2015. The transfer took place under the project "Support for State and Municipal Emergency Management in Ukraine," implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) on behalf of the German government.

Germany's chargé d'affaires, Katrin Buchholz, underscored the strain the war has placed on Ukrainian rescuers and the durability of the two countries' cooperation.

The robotic systems are meant to spare rescuers exposure in the most hazardous conditions, a danger that has proven lethal throughout the war. Russian attacks have killed at least 111 Ukrainian emergency responders and injured more than 550 since the 2022 full-scale war.

They have also destroyed hundreds of units of firefighting equipment and numerous fire stations, with the heaviest toll in frontline regions.
