Germany Sends Emergency Power Units to Kyiv Amid Russian Attacks on Energy Infrastructure

Germany has delivered two cogeneration units and additional generators to Ukraine to support Kyiv’s energy needs, as part of Berlin’s expanded winter emergency assistance package worth $143 million, Deutsche Welle (DW) reported on January 29.
The equipment was provided by the German government and is already operational in the capital.

The aid will help supply electricity and heat to more than 86,000 people, including residential buildings, hospitals, kindergartens, and schools, DW wrote, citing Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko.
It was previously reported that Russia’s latest missile and drone attacks have left large parts of Kyiv without electricity, heating, and water during subzero temperatures, forcing residents to improvise daily survival as emergency power outages stretch into days.

Svyrydenko added that further deliveries are expected soon. Ukraine is set to receive 41 additional cogeneration units with a combined capacity of 40.8 MW, as well as 76 modular boiler houses, as Germany continues to bolster Ukraine’s energy resilience amid ongoing Russian attacks on critical infrastructure.
Germany is not the only nation that assists in the restoration of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Earlier, Azerbaijan had sent Ukraine a new shipment of energy assistance on the orders of President Ilham Aliyev.
Poland had also dispatched 400 generators of various types from government reserves to assist Kyiv and nearby communities amid ongoing energy challenges.
