Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has reiterated threats regarding the potential use of nuclear weapons against Western nations.

During recent statements, the official emphasized that Moscow remains prepared to utilize its nuclear arsenal if other countries attempt to enter Russian territory. Ryabkov characterized this as a hypothetical extreme situation and urged global leaders to take the Russian military doctrine and the fundamentals of state policy on nuclear deterrence as seriously as possible, according to The Moscow Times on June 3.

Ryabkov noted that any encroachment on Russia or its territorial integrity by aggressors, including those who may not possess nuclear capabilities themselves, could result in a response using such weapons under the worst-case scenarios.

He advised Russia’s adversaries against attempting to test the nation’s “determination” to defend itself using every tool currently at its disposal.

Earlier in May, while discussing the testing of the Sarmat missile system, Ryabkov stated that Russia intends to continue showcasing the power of its strategic military assets. He suggested that Moscow is committed to taking all necessary steps to “cool hot heads in the West”.

"In a somewhat straightforward interpretation, the signal in these documents boils down to the fact that an encroachment on Russia or its territorial integrity by aggressors, including those who may not even possess such weapons, could, in the worst-case scenarios, lead to a response on our part using these [nuclear] assets," stated Ryabkov.

On June 3, Belarus’s Minister of Defense, Viktor Khrenin, warned that the risk of a military event involving Russia and Belarus against the West had reached an extremely high level.

During a meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Moscow, Khrenin argued that the increased deployment of approximately 21,000 NATO troops in Poland and the Baltic states was being viewed by his government as clear preparation for a potential clash.

The official further asserted that rising Western military expenditures and specific national strategic documents signaled a deliberate trajectory toward a standoff with Russia, while noting that the alliance was actively practicing the rapid movement of forces to the eastern flank.
