According to the channel, the incident occurred as Russian forces were responding to a large-scale drone attack. The Su-35 crew allegedly misidentified the Mi-8 helicopter as a hostile unmanned aerial vehicle and opened fire.
The helicopter was struck and crashed, killing all three crew members on board.
Earlier reports confirmed that the Mi-8 had gone down in the Voronezh region’s Anninsky district, but the circumstances surrounding the crash were initially unclear.
The exact variant of the Mi-8 involved in the incident has not been identified.

The reported friendly-fire incident follows two other recent crashes involving Russian military aircraft. On September 29, a Russian Tu-95MS strategic bomber crashed in the Amur region of Russia’s Far East with seven service members on board.
Russian media outlet Astra reported that the aircraft went down near the village of Krasnoyarovo. Initial reports indicated that six people on board were killed, while one was hospitalized. Ukrainian OSINT community Exilenova+ later corroborated reports of the crash and released footage of the aftermath, while Russian military-focused Telegram channel Voevoda Veshaet identified the aircraft as a Tu-95MS operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces.

Earlier, on June 15, a Russian Tu-22M3 long-range bomber crashed in the Irkutsk region. Russian military aviation blogger Ilya Tumanov, who runs the Fighterbomber Telegram channel, which is frequently associated with the Russian Aerospace Forces, reported the incident but said no information about the crew was available at the time.
