According to survivors, more employees were inside the building at the time, and emergency responders are currently trying to contain an open fire at the site.

Witnesses reported hearing at least three separate explosions from the facility as flames spread across the industrial location.

Local media sources state that the incident appears to be technical in nature rather than the result of a strike connected to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Meanwhile, residents in surrounding neighborhoods report hearing subsequent blasts echoing from the direction of the burning plant.

The Krasnozavodsk Chemical Plant operates as part of the state corporation Rostec, which produces the vast majority of Russian weaponry. The facility manufactures explosives, gunpowder, and key components for ammunition and missile systems.

Industrial facilities in the Moscow region have previously faced similar hazards. On August 31, 2025, when a major fire erupted at an industrial site in Balashikha, Moscow region, where a large blaze engulfed warehouse facilities near a chemical plant, sending thick black smoke over the area as residents reported a strong burning smell.

Emergency officials stated that the fire began in warehouses storing automotive chemicals across roughly 4,000 square meters before spreading to nearby structures, while local reports noted explosions likely triggered by gas cylinders and fuel materials stored on the premises.
