Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy paid tribute to the late Senator Lindsey Graham at a special memorial service in Washington, Zelenskyy reported on July 29.
Recalling their recent meeting in Kyiv—which marked Graham’s final overseas journey before his passing—Zelenskyy emphasized that their talks focused on sustaining defense assistance and ramping up economic measures against Moscow.

“We saw each other very recently, and it is very symbolic that Senator Graham’s last foreign trip was a visit to Kyiv,” Zelenskyy noted. Addressing those gathered for the service, he added that “the best way to honor his memory is to achieve what he fought for, in particular regarding Ukraine.”
The Ukrainian President stressed that Washington possesses the necessary leverage to curb Russian military aggression, urging US officials not to allow Moscow to prolong the war.
“We must support this aspiration and not allow Russia to drag out this war,” Zelenskyy stated. “We are convinced that America has all the necessary tools. President Trump has all the necessary tools. It would be right to work together in this exact way.”
Closing his statement, the president extended formal appreciation to American lawmakers across the political spectrum for their continued assistance throughout the war. “Thank you to all members of the Congress and the Senate of the United States for their support,” Zelenskyy said, adding, “And thank you, Senator Graham. I am truly grateful that Ukraine has such friends.”
In an 86–12 vote, the US Senate had also advanced a sweeping energy sanctions bill, previously drafted by Lindsey Graham, authorizing tariffs of up to 100% on buyers of Russian oil and gas, clearing a major procedural hurdle as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Capitol Hill.
