Yandex Hides All Four Cloud Data Centers on Maps After Ukrainian Drone Strike on Russia

Yandex has blurred all four of its Cloud data centers on its mapping service, including a facility in Russia’s Ryazan region that was reportedly hit by Ukrainian drones on October 8.
The locations were identified by Russian outlet Verstka, which reported that the facilities are in Mytishchi, Moscow region; Sasovo, Ryazan region; Kaluga; and Vladimir.

Satellite imagery in Yandex Maps shows the sites blurred, while searches for their addresses do not indicate that Yandex data centers are located there. It remains unclear when the company began concealing the facilities.
Verstka noted that other organizations also appear to operate at the same sites. Yandex provides limited information only about its Kaluga facility, where the service marks a checkpoint, although the displayed location is imprecise.

The concealment drew attention after the Yandex data center in the Ryazan region suspended operations following a drone attack on October 8. A fire broke out at the facility after the strike, according to the report.
Yandex described the attack as an "incident" that affected part of the facility’s infrastructure. The company reported that employees were working to restore the damaged systems.
The disruption highlights the vulnerability of Russia’s civilian digital infrastructure to drone attacks reaching facilities deep inside the country. The Ryazan incident affected one of the four locations that support Yandex Cloud infrastructure, as identified by Verstka.

The Sasovo data center shares its industrial site with the Sasta machine-tool plant, which was hit in the same overnight strike. Sasta manufactures CNC lathes, milling machines, and five-axis machining centers, and is reportedly integrated into supply chains supporting production of the Iskander tactical ballistic missile system.
The company faces sanctions from the US, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland, and other countries over its links to Russia's military-industrial sector.
The data center itself has a stated electrical capacity of up to 12 megawatts and is designed to host tens of thousands of servers. Widespread Yandex Cloud disruptions followed the attack, though a direct link to the damage has not been independently confirmed.
