Russian occupation authorities are reportedly transferring Ukrainian children to defense and sports camps in Russia’s Volgograd region under the guise of “health improvement” programs and “free recreation.”

This was reported by Ukraine’s Center for National Resistance on May 20.

The organization stated that teenagers in these camps undergo military-oriented training, including basic combat preparation, tactical medicine, weapons handling, and other army-related disciplines.

According to the Center for National Resistance, particular attention is being directed toward orphaned children. After completing such programs, some are allegedly transferred to Russian orphanages or military-patriotic institutions.

The organization argued that Russia is effectively building a system aimed at severing Ukrainian children from their national identity and integrating them into the Russian social and ideological environment.

“Through military camps and boarding institutions, the occupiers are shaping a new generation that they view as a future personnel reserve for the Russian army and security structures,” the Center for National Resistance stated.

The report comes amid mounting evidence indicating that the transfer of Ukrainian children to Russia is not only systematic but also supported by a wider institutional network.

Recent findings by Yale University’s Humanitarian Research Lab suggest that Russian state-affiliated energy companies have been directly involved in facilitating these operations.

According to the study, companies including Gazprom and Rosneft are alleged to have financed transportation and so-called “re-education” programs for more than 2,000 Ukrainian children taken from temporarily occupied territories between 2022 and 2025.

The researchers identified at least 2,158 children from the Donetsk, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions who were transferred to six facilities in Russia and occupied Crimea. These include camps such as Prometey, Signal, Kuban Niva, Art-Kvest, Sputnik, and the A.V. Kazakevich Children’s Health Camp.

Beyond the reported “re-education” programs, Ukrainian children who were taken to Russia are also being compelled to work in industrial facilities involved in the production of military equipment for Russian forces.

According to the Humanitarian Research Lab, an investigation found that at the “All-Russian Children’s Centre Change” in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, Ukrainian minors were engaged in assembling drones, mine detectors, robotic systems, and rapid-loading devices for assault rifles.
