Ukrainian photographer Roman Pilipey has been recognized as the National Press Photographers Association's National Photojournalist of the Year for 2026, receiving the award for a body of work produced in Ukraine for Agence France-Presse over the past year.

Commenting on the recognition, Pilipey said conditions in Ukraine had not improved during the past year. He recalled that the country had endured a winter of large-scale Russian attacks that left many civilians without heating or water, while the pace of strikes has since intensified amid a continuing shortage of air defense systems.
