DevDroid’s Machine-Gun Combat Robots Just Plugged Into a NATO Army

Ukraine’s DevDroid has put its combat unmanned ground vehicles through trials with the Italian Army, testing how Ukrainian battlefield robotics can operate alongside Italian systems and plug directly into a NATO tactical network.
The Ukrainian defense company demonstrated its Droid TW 7.62 and heavier Droid TW 12.7 during an intensive training scenario involving Italian troops, DevDroid said in a press release shared with UNITED24 Media on October 1.
We bring you stories from the ground. Your support keeps our team in the field.
The Ukrainian UGVs operated alongside the Italian ULISSE robotic platform developed by ABET HTS.
The scenario went well beyond a basic technology demonstration. The robotic systems participated in an operation involving artillery support, coordinated movement with infantry during an assault on positions, casualty evacuation, and a subsequent advance.
DevDroid specialists also trained Italian personnel on the vehicles’ control interface and operating principles, drawing directly on experience gained from deploying UGVs in Ukraine.

A major part of the exercise focused on interoperability.
The teams connected the Ukrainian platforms to a NATO situational-awareness system, testing the transmission of vehicle coordinates and live video feeds, as well as remote control through a tactical network.
According to DevDroid, the platforms successfully demonstrated that Ukrainian and Italian robotic systems could operate together within a single combat scenario.
The exercise also marked another step in a developing industrial partnership between DevDroid and ABET HTS.
The two companies have already signed a memorandum of cooperation and are now preparing documentation for the next phase, which includes establishing a joint venture.

The partnership is intended to combine Ukraine’s battlefield experience in developing and operating unmanned ground systems with Italian manufacturing and technological capabilities.
Footage of the Ukrainian and Italian robots operating together was later published on Instagram by the official account of the Quirinal Palace, the residence of the Italian president.
“For us, it is important that Ukrainian robotic systems can operate alongside solutions developed by our European partners. Trials like these allow us to test platform interoperability in joint scenarios and move from technology demonstrations toward practical industrial cooperation. The next step is to deepen technological and manufacturing cooperation with our Italian partners,” DevDroid said.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Droid TW-12.7 unmanned ground vehicle survived five FPV drone strikes and completed its combat mission before a sixth hit finally disabled the platform.
