Starlink Knocked Out? Ukraine’s Lynx Robots Can Now Reconnect Over Wi-Fi

Ukrainian robotics company ROBONEERS has upgraded its Lynx PRO and Lynx+ unmanned ground vehicles with a combined LTE and Wi-Fi antenna that can restore control when Starlink goes down, according to a company press release shared with UNITED24 Media on August 6.

The upgrade was developed in response to requests from Ukrainian military crews operating in tunnels, dense tree lines, and other areas where conventional communications can be blocked.

The new system provides an additional control channel when satellite or cellular signals cannot penetrate surrounding obstacles. Its Wi-Fi connection works at ranges of up to 60 meters, or roughly 200 feet.

“We received this request directly from UGV crews: there are sections of a route—a tunnel or a tree line—where LTE and Starlink simply cannot get a signal, and losing communications in exactly that location creates a risk of leaving the vehicle without control,” the company said.

Even if an enemy FPV drone hits the antenna and disables Starlink while the UGV itself remains operational.

“In both cases, Wi-Fi provides the additional communications channel needed to connect to the vehicle—from another UGV or even from a drone—and regain control,” ROBONEERS added.

The antenna can also help recover a stranded platform by allowing operators to reconnect through Wi-Fi and move it away even when its primary communications channels remain unavailable.

The new link supplements the digital MESH network and Starlink connection already included as standard on both systems, which provide reliable control under most battlefield conditions.

Roboneers also equipped the Lynx+ with a red work light for nighttime servicing. Unlike standard white lighting, it allows crews to work on the vehicle while reducing the risk of revealing their position.

Ukrainian units can order Lynx and Lynx PRO ground robotic systems through the Brave1 Market platform using e-points earned for verified battlefield results.

Earlier, Ukrainian defense company ROBONEERS completed the official codification of its Sabre K-2 remotely operated combat module, clearing the twin-rifle turret for deliveries to Ukraine’s Armed Forces.
