151 Russians Dead, Dozens Wounded as Ukraine Fights to Contain Pokrovsk Breakthrough

Ukrainian soldiers caused heavy losses to Russian forces in the Pokrovsk sector, killing 151 soldiers in just 48 hours, according to the Azov 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine on August 14.
“The enemy is suffering significant losses. Over the past two days, 151 occupiers have been eliminated in our area of responsibility,” the corps said in a statement.
In addition, more than 70 Russian troops were wounded and eight taken prisoner. Fighting remains ongoing.
Ukraine’s General Staff reported that Russian forces launched 27 attacks in the Pokrovsk direction since the start of the day. Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled 23 of them, though battles continue.
The latest clashes follow a Russian breakthrough the day before, when Moscow’s troops advanced roughly 15 kilometers into Ukrainian defensive lines on a narrow section of the front.
The enemy, relying on overwhelming infantry numbers and sustained pressure, captured the settlements of Kucheriv Yar and Zolotyi Kolodyaz.
To counter the advance, the Azov 1st Corps has taken up a designated defensive strip in the Pokrovsk sector and is now working to encircle Russian forces in specific areas.
“Combat operations are ongoing. Measures to block enemy forces in the designated area are being implemented,” the corps said.
Earlier, reports emerged that Ukraine was continuing a large-scale effort to strengthen its defensive lines, in what officials describe as the most ambitious fortification program since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
