As of now, 22,000 people have been evacuated from the Sumy region due to ongoing shelling by Russian troops.

This was reported by the Sumy Regional Military Administration.

Since the start of the year, Russian forces have carried out over 10,000 shellings in the Sumy region, compared to 8,000 strikes throughout the entire previous year.

“In August alone, the Russians carried out more than 2,200 shellings of settlements and territories of the Sumy region. The enemy uses powerful weapons against the civilian population, dropping guided aerial bombs and FPV drones,” said the Head of the Regional Military Administration, Volodymyr Artiukh.

It is reported that up to 22,000 people have already been evacuated from dangerous areas and it is expected for the number to increase.

Previously, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, stated that in total, 45,000 people need to be evacuated from the Sumy region.

Russia has been consistently striking the Sumy region, which borders the Russian Federation, including the Bryansk region on the northeast, and the Kursk and Belgorod regions on the east.
