6,000 Attacks in 3 Months—Russia Escalates Missile and Drone Strikes on Ukraine
Between September and November 2024, Russia launched over 6,000 missile and drone strikes on Ukraine—nearly three times the number recorded in the previous three months and four times more than during the same period in 2023, The Wall Street Journal reported on December 9.
According to WSJ, a new factory in Tatarstan enables Russia to manufacture up to 1,200 copies of Iranian Shahed drones each month. While these drones are inferior to the original, their mass production places significant strain on Ukraine’s air defense systems.
In October, Ukrainian forces intercepted 93% of incoming drones, and in November, the success rate for neutralizing ballistic and hypersonic missiles exceeded 40%. Over the past three months, drones and decoy targets have accounted for nearly 92% of all projectiles launched at Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that in just the past week, Russia had deployed nearly 500 guided aerial bombs, over 400 strike drones, and around 20 missiles of various types.
"Our cities and communities face constant terrorist attacks. Every day, our defenders of the skies fight back against Russian aggression. Over the last week, Russia has used nearly 500 guided aerial bombs, more than 400 strike drones, and almost 20 missiles against Ukraine," Zelenskyy stated.
"This daily terror and this war cannot remain the burden of one nation alone. It requires unified action from everyone who values life—in Europe, America, and around the world. Only together can we achieve a just peace," Zelenskyy emphasized.
Previously on December 6, Russian forces attacked Zaporizhzhia with aerial bombs, killing 10 people and injuring 27.
