Ukrainian drones targeted the Sverdlov Plant, a key explosives facility in Dzerzhinsk, located in the Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia.

The attack resulted in damage to a pipeline overpass and two workshops, according to reports from ASTRA on April 9.

The plant, a significant part of Russia’s military-industrial complex, produces explosives and is a city-forming enterprise in Dzerzhinsk, Russia.

The regional authorities announced that the drone attack on the industrial area had been repelled, with no casualties or significant damage reported.

However, according to ASTRA, the explosion did cause considerable damage to the plant’s infrastructure. This follows a previous attack on October 20, 2024, when 16 drones targeted the plant, targeting another workshop where octogen and hexogen, crucial components for explosives, are produced.

The Ya. M. Sverdlov Plant is subject to sanctions from Ukraine, the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Switzerland for its role in supporting activities that threaten Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The plant has also been linked to Russia’s attempts to circumvent sanctions, particularly through its receipt of nitric acid and nitric-sulfuric acid mixtures, which are used in military applications.

In related news, Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi confirmed on April 9 that Ukrainian forces successfully destroyed a Russian Tu-22M3 long-range strategic bomber, valued at approximately $100 million, using a drone.
