Black Sea Fleet Vessels Russia Has Lost Since the Beginning of the Full-Scale Invasion

At the main parade in honor of the Russian Navy, which took place in St. Petersburg, on July 26, none of the ships that were declared destroyed or damaged by the command of the Ukrainian Army were present. 

During the parade broadcast, only two ships from the Black Sea Fleet were shown. The "Mercury" corvette, which from 2024 performs tasks at the Russian military base in Tartus, Syria, and the "Admiral Hryhorovych" frigate.

As of June 8, 2024, the Russian fleet in the Black Sea suffered the following losses:

  • 22 units of ships and boats were destroyed (not including those whose damage does not involve restoration);

  • 20 units of ship-boat equipment were damaged (including those that cannot be restored).

“Velikiy Ustyug” Missile Vessel, March 2022

On March 7, 2022, the vessel was hit by artillery or was damaged due to a drone strike. On June 17, the damaged vessel was spotted while being towed along the Volga.

“Saratov” landing ship, March 2022

(destroyed)

On March 24, 2022, this ship was sunk by Ukrainian forces with a Tochka-U short-range ballistic missile while parked in the occupied Berdiansk of the Zaporizhzhia region. It is known that "Saratov" could transport about 400 servicemen, as well as 20 main battle tanks or 45 armored vehicles.

The flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet was the missile cruiser "Moskva". Ukraine sunk the cruiser by hitting it with long-range Neptune missiles on April 14, 2022. The cruiser was designed to strike large enemy surface ships and to ensure combat stability of naval anti-submarine groups.

"Moskva" provided air cover for other Russian warships at the beginning of the invasion and helped capture Snake Island at the end of February 2022.

On Monday, May 2, two Russian patrol boats of the Raptor type were destroyed near the Snake Island in the Black Sea.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has confirmed that a Project 11770 Serna class landing craft was hit by a Bayraktar drone in the area of ​​Zmiinyi (Snake) Island on May 7, 2022.

This boat was destroyed by a "Bayraktar" UAV strike on May 7 in the Black Sea, ​​Zmiinyi Island area.

Minesweeper 266M “Kovrovets”, May 2022

Ukraine's Defence Forces destroyed the “Kovrovets”, a Project 266M naval minesweeper belonging to the Russian Black Sea Fleet, on the night of 18-19 May.

On June 17, 2022, a support vessel of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the tugboat "Spasatel Vasily Bekh" was sunk after being struck by the Ukrainian navy.

The ship "Askold" was damaged on November 4. It did not even have time to become part of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation. Ukraine became the first country ever to incapacitate an enemy missile ship before its official commissioning.

The Russian ship "Novocherkask" was damaged on March 24, 2022, as a result of an attack by the Tochka-U missile complex in the port of Berdyansk, Sea of ​​Azov. On December 26 2023 it was destroyed by presumably a Storm Shadow in the port of Feodosia, Black Sea.
