Ammunition Depot on Fire in Russia’s Voronezh Region, Local Authorities Announce Evacuation
Authorities in the Voronezh Region have declared a state of emergency following the detonation of ammunition at a depot in the Ostrogozhsk district. The incident occurred in the early hours of September 7, according to eyewitness reports.
Initially, it was reported that only one village would be evacuated, but Gusev later clarified that the evacuation would affect several settlements. Specific names of the villages subject to evacuation have not yet been disclosed.
“An emergency regime has been declared in the Ostrogozhsk district, where a fire broke out near explosive materials and led to detonation,” Gusev stated.
Local Telegram channels report that the epicenter of the incident is the village of Soldatskoye. Gusev indicated that the extent of the damage will be assessed after the fire is extinguished. The fire at the depot has been ongoing for several hours, and firefighting teams are unable to begin extinguishing it due to the risk of explosions. Local residents have reported significant explosions of ammunition.
