Australia Restores Kyiv Embassy Operations and Announces New Aid Packages for Ukraine
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced the allocation of €50 million ($52.48 million) to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development , as well as the contribution of $6.39 million to Ukraine's Energy Support Fund.
This was stated by Wong during her official visit to Kyiv, on December 18, where she met with her Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha.
The ministers agreed to fully restore the operations of the Australian Embassy in Ukraine. Sybiha expressed confidence that this step would further strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
The head of Ukraine's Foreign Ministry expressed deep gratitude to Australia for its military support, including the recent provision of 49 Abrams tanks and 14 patrol boats. He noted that Australia's total assistance has exceeded $1 billion, with $880 million dedicated to military aid.
“Supporting Ukraine is directly in Australia’s interests, as it bolsters stability not only in Europe but also in the Indo-Pacific region. We must intensify pressure on the aggressor state and increase the cost of war for the Kremlin,” stated Sybiha.
During the same meeting, the minister informed his counterpart Wong about the urgent needs of the Ukrainian military, including Australian Bushmaster armored vehicles and other weaponry.
