Ukraine has received a new batch of humanitarian aid from the Republic of Azerbaijan, consisting of 11 generators with a total capacity of 2.4 MW, Ukrainian Ministry of Energy reported on February 23.

The equipment has already been delivered to key medical and social institutions in Kyiv, including specialized hospitals, the clinic of the Bogomolets National Medical University, the National Institute of Phthisiology, Pulmonology and Allergology, municipal clinical hospitals, emergency medical services, and diagnostic centers.

During the handover ceremony, Deputy Energy Ministers Mykola Kolisnyk and Valentyna Moskalenko thanked Azerbaijan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine, Seymur Gurban oglu Mardaliyev, for Azerbaijan’s consistent support of Ukraine’s energy sector.

“We are grateful to Azerbaijan for these generators, which are part of the latest humanitarian aid package sent in January. The equipment provided will strengthen the resilience of our social and medical infrastructure at a time when Russia is deliberately targeting Ukraine’s energy system during the harshest winter conditions. Under the current circumstances, reliable backup power generation for healthcare facilities is of critical humanitarian importance,” said Mykola Kolisnyk.

Valentyna Moskalenko emphasized that the generators would help guarantee uninterrupted electricity for medical and social institutions, providing crucial support to patients, healthcare workers, and vulnerable groups, and added that Ukraine deeply appreciates this assistance from Azerbaijan as well as previous deliveries from its partners.

The Ministry noted that since March 2022, Ukraine has received 149 humanitarian shipments of energy equipment from Azerbaijan, with a total weight exceeding 2,300 tons and an estimated value of around $12 million.

Earlier, it was reported that Latvia will hand over a complete thermal power plant to Ukraine to strengthen the country’s energy system as it continues to face Russian attacks.
