Belarus has launched a new nationwide television channel, VoenTV, aimed at expanding military-themed content and promoting what officials describe as “patriotic” programming, Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation reported on February 23.

The launch date—February 23, traditionally marked as Soviet Army Day—underscores the ideological direction of the project. According to official statements, the channel will broadcast feature films and documentaries of a patriotic nature, as well as children’s programming. Authorities say the initiative responds to a “societal demand for patriotic content” and is intended to strengthen “information security.”

VoenTV previously operated for more than 30 years as an internal media resource of Belarus’s Defense Ministry. It has now been transformed into a full-fledged national channel, integrated into countrywide broadcasting packages and accessible across Belarus, significantly expanding the reach of military propaganda amid Russia’s war against Ukraine, Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation wrote.

The militarization of Belarusian state media shows Minsk’s deep complicity in Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, which began in 2022.

Although the Belarusian army has not officially entered the war, Belarussian leader Alexander Lukashenko allowed his country to serve as a vital staging ground for the February 2022 assault on Kyiv, permitting Russian forces to use Belarusian territory, airbases, and infrastructure to launch troops and missile strikes into Ukraine, according to the Council on Foreign Relations.

The Center for Countering Disinformation said the move signals deeper ideological alignment between Minsk and the Kremlin, despite earlier attempts by Belarusian authorities to project neutrality.

Earlier, In Belarus, a surge in military activity was raising concerns, with mass convocations of reservists and intensified drills near the Ukrainian border. These actions come as part of routine readiness checks, according to military experts, but are still closely watched by neighboring countries, including NATO members.

Since mid-February 2026, Belarusian authorities have called up reserves for sudden military exercises, causing alarm among local communities. The draft has notably impacted fathers of multiple children, with reports on social media of individuals being swiftly summoned for training, including some who had not even previously served in the armed forces.
