Belgium and Türkiye intent to join the Drone Coalition  for Ukraine, as was announced at the summit within the framework of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group on May 29. This was confirmed by Latvia’s Ministry of Defense, which co-chairs the initiative.

Latvian Defense Minister Andris Sprūds highlighted that coalition members collectively contributed around €180 million to the shared procurement fund, managed by the United Kingdom, another co-leader of the initiative.

“The international Drone Coalition is becoming increasingly stronger – we will be able to deliver more drones to Ukraine while simultaneously strengthening the defense industries of Latvia, the EU, and NATO countries. Our strength lies in unity, so new allies joining the coalition will enable us to provide Ukraine with the much-needed support in its fight against the aggressor,” said Sprūds.

This fund is intended for centralized drone technology procurement, in addition to national support measures for each member country, according to Latvia’s Ministry of Defense.

Latvia itself announced plans to allocate €20 million (approximately $22.8 million) for drone procurement in 2025 as part of its contribution to the coalition, as well as an additional €10 million (approximately $11.4 million) for projects fostering cooperation between Latvian and Ukrainian industries.

Since its inception in February 2024, the Drone Coalition has provided significant support to Ukraine. In 2024 alone, this amounted to €1.8 billion (approximately $2.04 billion), with projections for 2025 reaching €2.75 billion (approximately $3.13 billion).

With Belgium and Türkiye’s impending inclusion, the coalition will expand to 20 nations, though this requires approval from current members.

As of May 2025, the Drone Coalition for Ukraine comprises 18 member states, including the United Kingdom, Latvia, Germany, France, Poland, Sweden, Canada, the Netherlands, Australia, Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Italy, New Zealand, Czechia, and Ukraine.

Previously, Latvia has delivered a new batch of 1,500 combat drones to Ukraine as part of its contribution to the international drone coalition, Latvian Minister of Defense Andris Spruds announced.
