The Council of Ministers of Bulgaria at a meeting on Wednesday, August 7, authorized the participation of servicemen of the Bulgarian Armed Forces in the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU).

This decision of the Bulgarian government permits the participation of the Bulgarian military in the initiative of the Alliance, under the auspices of which the training of Ukrainian servicemen will take place.

"By adopting this decision, our country clearly demonstrates its commitment to supporting Ukraine, the defense of Euro-Atlantic values, and confirms solidarity with the Alliance in joint efforts to support international peace and security," the statement emphasized.

"Taking into account the proximity of the conflict to our border and its importance for security in Europe, the contribution is in line with the efforts of other allies," they added.

It is unclear how many Bulgarian servicemen will be involved in the NATO operation. Earlier, Bulgaria sent 50 military personnel to the European Union's Military Assistance Mission (EUMAM), which was also engaged in the training of Ukrainian forces.

The summit of the North Atlantic Alliance in Washington on July 9-11 agreed on establishing a new structure for the coordination of training and equipping Ukrainian troops across various allied nations called "NATO Security and Training Assistance for Ukraine" (NSATU).
