Czechia is working on a new initiative to procure ammunition for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and is calling on EU member states to join on January 31.

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský confirmed the plan in a statement to N-TV, saying, "This is a matter of political will. If multiple EU states support our initiative, we can achieve significant results for Ukraine," Lipavský said, adding that funding options are under discussion.

This would be the second such initiative by Czechia. Last year, Prague coordinated efforts to purchase artillery shells from third countries, with several nations joining.

In June, the first batch of ammunition secured through the program arrived in Ukraine. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala previously stated that Ukraine is expected to receive approximately 500,000 shells by the end of 2024.

On January 22, The Czech Senate approved "Lex Ukraine," extending temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees and restricting Russian nationals from applying for Czech citizenship, Radio Prague Internationale reports.
