Denmark and Sweden Provide CV90 Infantry Fighting Vehicles to Ukraine
Denmark, in collaboration with Sweden, has prepared a new batch of CV90 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) for Ukraine as part of its 23rd military aid package. The package, valued €281 million, aims to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities, focusing on air defense and combat aviation.
The Danish Ministry of Defense stated that the aid package includes funding to support the operation of Ukrainian F-16 fighter jets and the provision of CV90 IFVs.
The CV90 Infantry Fighting Vehicle
The CV90 is a highly versatile and modern infantry fighting vehicle designed to provide advanced combat capabilities. The latest iteration, the CV9035 Mk.IIIC, was developed in 2023 based on the Dutch CV9035NL modernization program.
Equipped with a newly designed D35 turret, the vehicle features a 35mm Bushmaster III automatic cannon, advanced fire control systems incorporating artificial intelligence, and separate optical devices for the gunner and commander. These enhancements draw on lessons from the ongoing Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The D35 turret includes a stabilized mast-mounted COAPS-L electro-optical system for improved targeting and situational awareness. It is also designed to integrate Spike-LR2 anti-tank guided missiles and Iron Fist active protection systems, though their export to Ukraine requires Israeli government approval.
In terms of mobility and ballistic protection, the CV9035 Mk.IIIC maintains the high standards of the CV90 platform, ensuring it remains a reliable asset in modern combat scenarios.
Denmark is also contributing additional personnel to NATO's mission supporting Ukraine and increasing its involvement in the European Union Military Assistance Mission for Ukraine.
Since 2023, Denmark has allocated approximately $9 billion for military assistance to Ukraine through the Ukrainian Fund. More than $7 billion has already been spent or committed.
