Kyiv and Brussels Sign Key Deals on Ukraine’s EU Space Program Participation and Joint Medical Procurement Treaty

Under three of these agreements, the European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide Ukraine with €300 million to help restore energy and critical infrastructure.
The three agreements were signed in Brussels during a meeting with EIB President Nadia Calvino:
€100 million will be allocated to invest in centralized heating, improve energy efficiency, and purchase necessary equipment, including systems for generating electricity and heat;
€100 million will fund projects aimed at improving water supply and wastewater management;
€100 million will support the restoration of water, heating, and sewage infrastructure, as well as modernize essential social services in education, healthcare, and housing.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the EIB has provided Ukraine with over €2 billion in emergency funding.
Shmyhal also mentioned that Ukraine is strengthening its cooperation with the EU in space and healthcare sectors. The relevant agreements were also signed in Brussels:
An agreement on Ukraine’s participation in EU space programs. This cooperation will foster the development of space technologies in Ukraine, help Ukrainian businesses integrate into the European space market, and contribute to the country’s economic recovery.
Ukraine’s accession to the Joint Procurement Agreement for medical protective equipment. This mechanism allows participating countries to pool their needs for pharmaceuticals and vaccines, enabling them to obtain these goods at better conditions, more quickly, and in stable quantities.
Previously, Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever arrived in Ukraine for an official visit, traveling alongside Foreign Minister Maxim Prevot and Defense Minister Theo Francken. During the visit, he pledged to provide Ukraine with $1.1 billion (€1 billion) annually for defense and confirmed that the first Belgian-supplied F-16 fighter jets will be delivered to Ukraine as early as 2025.
