Denmark is prepared to send troops to Ukraine if European peacekeeping forces are required, DR reported, citing Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen following a meeting of the Foreign Policy Committee.

On March 10, Denmark’s foreign and defense ministers met with members of the parliamentary Foreign Policy Committee to clarify the government’s stance on deploying troops to Ukraine. The proposal received broad support from various parliamentary parties.

“It is important that we in Europe send the right signals to both Putin and Washington. That is what we are doing today by saying: If it comes to the point where a European presence is needed for a ceasefire or peace agreement to be reached, then Denmark is in principle prepared for that,” said Rasmussen.

“We have not made a decision to make a concrete effort. It will depend on how things develop. Therefore, this is an expression of timely care,” said Troels Lund Poulsen.

Several European nations expressed their openness to send peacekeeping troops to Ukraine if needed.

On March 3, Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry stated not ruling out the possibility of deploying Lithuanian peacekeepers to Ukraine. The same was stated by the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
