Denmark to Provide Satellite Services to Ukraine via EU Defense Agency, Says Defense Minister

Denmark will provide satellite communication services to the Ukrainian military for the first time through the European Defence Agency, the Danish Ministry of Defence announced on July 14.
The assistance includes secure satellite solutions and specialized terminals aimed at improving Ukraine’s access to reliable and protected communications. According to Danish officials, this type of support is exactly what Ukraine requested.
“The terminals will ensure stable and secure connections, which can be crucial for the successful conduct of military operations,” the ministry stated.

The European Defence Agency expects other EU member states to consider similar contributions in the future.
In March, eight European countries filed a complaint with the International Telecommunication Union, a United Nations agency, regarding Russia’s interference with European satellite communications.
This announcement comes amid concerns raised earlier in the year about potential interruptions to Ukraine’s access to Starlink satellite services. Although US officials confirmed that the connection would continue, Ukraine has been seeking alternative options to maintain secure communications.
Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen said Denmark is proud to contribute to Ukraine’s space defense, emphasizing the growing importance of space in defense policy.
“I am proud that Denmark is contributing to Ukraine’s space defense with this donation. Space is an area that increasingly requires attention in defense policy. In close cooperation with the European Defence Agency, Denmark has already helped strengthen Ukraine’s satellite communications to protect it from Russia. There is great potential in space solutions that can benefit the defense of Ukraine as well as Denmark and Europe,” Poulsen stated.
Previously, it was reported that Ukraine is set to become the first European country to provide mobile satellite services via Starlink.
