Deported Russians Land in Moscow—and Are Met With Military Draft Notices

A group of Russian nationals deported from the United States received military summonses shortly after landing in Moscow early Tuesday morning, Dmitry Valuev, president of Russian America for Democracy in Russia, told the Russian media Agency on December 9.
According to Valuev, several men on the flight were handed draft notices immediately upon arrival. The plane—arriving from Cairo—landed at 2:39 a.m. Moscow time, according to FlightAware tracking data.

Valuev said the total number of deported passengers remains unclear. “We are not yet in contact with everyone,” he noted, declining to say whether any were detained after landing.
The notices delivered to the men are likely related to mandatory registration with draft offices or demands to appear before military enlistment authorities, Valuev suggested.
The deportees were flown to Cairo aboard a special aircraft from Arizona, landing at 14:26 local time. They departed Egypt later that evening.

In Cairo, the men were issued their belongings and phones before being escorted under guard to their connecting flight to Moscow, Valuev said.
This marks the third mass deportation flight of Russian nationals from the US this year, following similar removals in June and August, in addition to individual extradition cases.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia’s military losses in 2025 nearly equal the number of troops it mobilized that year, stating that Moscow failed to gain meaningful ground on the battlefield.
