Desperate to Avoid Combat, Russian Troops Burn Own Military Trucks in Kherson, Partisans Report

Russian soldiers in the Kherson region are reportedly setting fire to their own military vehicles and transport in order to avoid advancing to frontline positions, according to the Ukrainian partisan group Atesh, as reported by RBC‑Ukraine on August 22 .
According to the Telegram channel linked to Atesh, agents from the 24th Motorized Rifle Regiment stationed in the Kherson direction are deliberately destroying their own equipment. The purpose, the report indicates, is to sabotage orders to deploy to positions under hostile circumstances, thereby hindering further operations.

Atesh describes the situation within the unit as “critical,” attributing the soldiers’ actions to devastating losses and severe orders imposed by Russian command. Many servicemen are reportedly going AWOL and refusing to follow orders amid the chaos. The partisan statement reportedly said:
“This was caused by the brutal orders of the command, due to which the unit suffered heavy losses, and the soldiers were thrown into positions without EW equipment against Ukrainian drones.”
Earlier, it was reported that cyber operatives from ATESH disabled Russia’s main commodity exchange platform, which processes approximately 99% of the country’s raw materials trading, striking at the economic core of the Kremlin’s war machine.
