Drones struck multiple regions inside Russia overnight, with explosions reported in Engels, Saratov, and across Russia’s Rostov region, according to the Exilenova monitoring project and local residents on December 7.

In the city of Engels, eyewitness reports indicate that drones may have hit the Engels air base, which hosts Russia’s Tu-160 and Tu-95MS strategic bombers, important aircraft used in long-range missile strikes against Ukraine. Locals also reported explosions near a fuel depot.

In the Rostov region, drone strikes damaged electricity transmission towers, leaving hundreds of residents without power. Regional officials acknowledged disruptions to the power supply but released few details about the scale of the damage.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed that its air defenses intercepted and destroyed 77 drones overnight. These claims cannot be independently verified. As in previous incidents, the ministry did not specify where the drones were downed or whether military or energy infrastructure was affected.

Previously, Head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation Andrii Kovalenko confirmed that Ukrainian drones struck the Engels airbase in Russia overnight—a key hub for the Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers used for long-range missile attacks on Ukraine.

“Saratov, Engels—the Russians really enjoyed the nighttime attack. Aircraft stationed at Engels carry out strikes on Ukraine. The enemy has recently been preparing another combined strike on our country,” the agency’s chief said.
