The Afipsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region came under a drone attack overnight on September 26, Russian outlet Astra reported.
Debris from the unmanned aerial vehicle struck one of the refinery’s units, igniting a fire that covered roughly 30 square meters. The blaze was swiftly contained, with no casualties reported. Emergency and specialized crews continue to operate at the site.
Fragments of another drone also fell on a street in the village of Golubitskaya in the Temryuk district. Preliminary reports said there were no injuries or infrastructure damage.
The Afipsky refinery specializes in producing gasoline and diesel fuel and plays a key role in supplying Russia’s military. Its annual processing capacity is about 6.25 million tons of crude oil, making it one of the main fuel hubs for the Russian Armed Forces.
In a separate incident just two days earlier, Ukrainian drones targeted the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat petrochemical plant in Bashkortostan, regional governor Radiy Khabirov confirmed. Astra reported that residents of Salavat heard several explosions before a dense column of smoke billowed above the facility.
Previously, drone attacks hit several regions of Russia, with strikes reported on industrial sites in Lipetsk, Ryazan, Voronezh, and Kursk.
Russian officials and local media reported that the strikes hit critical infrastructure, including the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant and the Ryazan oil refinery.
