Russia halted operations at two major Black Sea oil export facilities following overnight alerts of possible drone strikes, Bloomberg reported on September 24.

The disruption affected the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal and the Sheskharis oil depot, both located near Novorossiysk, a critical hub for Russian and Kazakh crude.

A spokesperson for CPC confirmed to Bloomberg that loadings were suspended as a precautionary measure during the alert, calling the move a “standard safety protocol.”

A source familiar with the situation added that the Sheskharis terminal also paused shipments. While both facilities resumed later, the suspensions highlighted the vulnerability of Russia’s energy infrastructure amid Ukraine’s intensifying campaign.

Together, CPC and Sheskharis handle more than 2 million barrels per day, a volume representing a significant share of Russia’s export capacity.

Russia considers Novorossiysk and its nearby terminals to be among its most strategically important oil export routes, serving key markets in Europe and Asia.

Ukrainian long-range drones have increasingly targeted refineries, pumping stations, and export terminals in recent months. Since August, at least 17 Russian refineries have been struck, forcing Moscow to adjust export flows through alternative routes, including the Baltic port of Ust-Luga.

Earlier, it was reported that drones struck Russia’s strategic Ust-Luga port and the Syzran oil refinery, disrupting operations in critical export and processing infrastructure.
