Estonia Pledges $3.2 Million to Boost Ukraine’s Starlink Communications Network

Estonia will allocate $3.2 million to purchase and maintain Starlink satellite communication systems for Ukraine, helping strengthen the country’s secure battlefield communications.
Ukrainian Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal announced the decision on November 5, following a meeting with Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur during the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) summit—a UK-led defense coalition that includes Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Norway. The JEF was established to enable rapid collective responses to regional security crises.

Shmyhal noted that discussions also focused on training Ukrainian soldiers under Estonia’s Operation Legio and expanding defense cooperation. “We are grateful to Estonia for its consistent leadership and support for Ukraine’s defense,” he wrote on X.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Estonia has provided more than $550 million in military assistance to Ukraine—around 1.4% of its GDP , one of the highest levels of support among Kyiv’s allies.
In September, Estonia pledged to allocate at least $110 million to Ukraine’s defense efforts in 2026, reaffirming its long-term commitment to supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and security.
Earlier, it was reported that Russian Federal Security Service border patrol boat was spotted on the Narva River—along the border separating Estonia and Russia—flying a flag of the Wagner private military company.
