Lithuania and Estonia have not received European Union funding for the construction of the so-called ‘drone wall’ along their borders, Lithuania’s national broadcaster LRT reported on April 7, citing the Lithuanian Interior Ministry.

“Estonian and Lithuanian border authorities had submitted a joint application for EU funding to develop a so-called ‘drone wall’ along the border, but the project was not granted funding,” the ministry told BNS in a comment.

“Estonia was the main applicant and Lithuania was a partner,” the statement added.

In May last year, then–Lithuanian Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė announced that the Baltic countries had agreed to develop a so-called ‘drone wall.’ Its purpose is to monitor the border and deploy systems to counter hostile drones.

On March 18, Poland announced plans to install anti-personnel mines along its borders with Russia and Belarus as part of its large-scale defense program, “Eastern Shield.” Neighboring Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia are also planning to lay anti-tank mines along their borders with Russia as part of the Baltic Defense Line.
