EU Peacekeeping Mission to Ukraine Gains International Support, Zelenskyy Confirms
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that discussions in Brussels included the idea of deploying a peacekeeping mission to Ukraine, Ukrainian media European Pravda reported on December 19.
Speaking at a press conference following the meeting, Zelenskyy shared that consultations on the proposal are ongoing with support from French President Emmanuel Macron.
“We discussed Emmanuel’s longstanding idea. We support the concept [of a peacekeeping mission, which means] strengthening Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian President noted positive developments. “Emmanuel has been in contact with several leaders about this. We are in the process, but I can see there is positive feedback from some leaders,” he added.
However, the Ukrainian President refrained from providing details on the potential format of the mission, citing the sensitivity of the matter.
“The question lies in the details, and we are currently discussing those details,” he said.
Earlier, reports emerged that European countries were discussing the possibility of deploying peacekeeping forces to Ukraine, following an initiative proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron.
