Europe Can Now Produce Six Times More Artillery Shells Than Two Years Ago, NATO’s Mark Rutte Says

Europe is now capable of producing six times more artillery shells annually than two years ago, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said during a visit to Germany on August 27.
Production is expected to reach 2 million rounds by the end of 2025.
Rutte spoke at the opening of Rheinmetall’s artillery plant in Unterlüß, the largest in Europe, which alone plans to produce 350,000 shells a year. The expansion is part of a broader European effort to strengthen defense industries to support both regional security and Ukraine’s defenses against Russian aggression.

“Countries must now focus on tanks, air defense, and missiles,” Rutte said. “We can build on our experience with ramping up shells and learn from Ukraine’s innovative industrial mobilization.”
Previously, it was reported that Rutte visited Kyiv, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss Ukraine’s future security architecture and ways to move closer to ending the war, according to Ukrinform.
Over the past time, a coalition of 30 nations—including Japan and Australia—had also been working on a framework of security guarantees for Ukraine, Rutte said in an interview with Fox News.
