NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte says the alliance will keep supplying weapons to Ukraine regardless of the outcome of the August 15 meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Rutte said, speaking on CBS News on August 10.
Rutte underscored NATO’s commitment to “has what it needs to stay in the fight and be in the best possible position” when the time comes for negotiations for a ceasefire or peace deal.
On whether those talks could begin soon, Rutte said the Alaska meeting would essentially serve as a test of Putin’s sincerity.

“If not, then it will stop there,” he said. “If he is serious, then from Friday onwards, the process will continue—with Ukraine involved, and Europeans involved.”
Asked whether he was comfortable with Ukraine not being present for Friday’s talks, Rutte insisted that when it comes to discussions of territory, security guarantees, peace talks, and the next steps, “Ukraine will have to be—and will be—involved.”
Earlier, eight Northern European and Baltic nations declared that any diplomatic resolution to Russia’s war against Ukraine must protect the “vital security interests” of both Ukraine and Europe.
