European Aerospace Giant Airbus To Train Ukrainian Technicians Under New Partnership

Ukroboronprom, Ukraine’s state defense conglomerate, and European aerospace giant Airbus signed a trilateral Memorandum of Cooperation at the Le Bourget International Air Show on June 23, establishing maintenance and repair services for Airbus aircraft in Ukraine and training Ukrainian specialists to instructor level, as was reported by Militarnyi.
Ukroboronprom and Airbus formalized a partnership to develop in-country capabilities for servicing and overhauling Airbus aviation equipment flown by Ukrainian forces. The agreement covers the formation of specialized repair hubs at Ukroboronprom enterprises and the transfer of technical documentation necessary to support aircraft maintenance operations.
“Trust in our defense industrial complex, particularly Ukroboronprom and its enterprises, is growing among global high-tech companies,” said Oleh Huliak, Director General of Ukroboronprom. “This cooperation confirms that we have chosen the right path for development and international collaboration.”

Under the memorandum, Airbus representatives will travel to Ukraine to assemble and lead training cohorts of engineers and technicians. Upon completion, these personnel will receive certified instructor status, enabling them to train additional Ukrainian specialists across the maintenance network.
Although Airbus is widely known for civilian airliners, the company also produces military platforms—including the Eurofighter Typhoon, A400M Atlas transport aircraft, C295 light transport, A330 MRTT tanker and the Eurodrone under development—positioning it to support Ukraine’s evolving aviation needs.

This initiative follows Ukraine’s earlier partnerships with Western defense firms: in February 2024, Ukroboronprom joined MBDA Deutschland—a joint venture involving Airbus—to explore joint research and production of air defense systems, laying a foundation for deeper integration with NATO supply chains.
Earlier, a cross-party group of British MPs proposed establishing a joint UK–Ukraine defense production centre to accelerate weapons deliveries to Ukraine and strengthen the UK’s defense industrial base under the UK’s annual approximately $4 billion assistance program.
