Explosion Hits Serbian Arms Factory One Day After Russia Alleges Weapons Supply to Ukraine

An explosion hit Serbian Arms Factory at the Krušik defense plant in Valjevo, Serbia. The incident comes shortly after the Russian Federation accused the facility of supplying weapons to Ukraine.
According to Balkan media outlet Radio Free Europe on May 30, the blast took place at approximately 7:30 a.m. and was caused by the accidental activation of a detonator amplifier during the pressing of PETN, a high-explosive compound.
One worker sustained lacerations, while four others experienced concussion symptoms, including ringing in the ears. All injured personnel were transported to hospital for medical evaluation and hearing tests.

The Krušik plant has a history of similar incidents, with explosions previously reported in August 2022, January and May 2023, and most recently in August 2024.
Earlier, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has accused Serbian defense companies of continuing to supply ammunition to Ukraine, despite Serbia’s official stance of neutrality.
In a statement titled “Serbia’s Military Industry Attempts to Shoot Russia in the Back,” the SVR claimed that Serbian arms manufacturers have supported what it described as “a war instigated by the West” by delivering “hundreds of thousands of rockets for multiple-launch rocket systems and howitzers, as well as one million rounds of small arms ammunition.”
