Previously, two Russian military aircraft were also suspected of breaching Finnish airspace in the same area on May 23.
“We take the suspected violation of our territory very seriously, and the investigation is ongoing,” Finnish Defense Minister stated.
Earlier, Russia’s armed forces had begun escorting shadow fleet oil tankers through the Gulf of Finland. According to Finland’s Ministry of Defense, Russian aerial activity near the country’s borders has risen markedly since Finland formally joined NATO.
