Finnish Military Exports to Ukraine Will Include Cutting Edge Weapons Still in Development
Lieutenant General Mikko Heiskanen, head of the military economy department of the Finnish Defense Forces, stated to Finnish media Yle on June 8 that weapons donations to Ukraine are seen as beneficial for mastering Finnish military equipment.
Heiskanen highlighted that besides weapons stored in warehouses, Finland is also exporting the latest innovations from its defense industry, some of which are still in the development phase. He noted that initial feedback on this equipment has been positive.
This transparency marks a shift for Finland, as previously details about their military aid to Ukraine have been limited.
Finland ranks among the leading global contributors of military aid to Ukraine, with financial assistance steadily increasing since the onset of the war. In the previous year, the total aid amounted to 1.4 billion euros, a significant increase compared to 2022.
