Ukrainian security and defense forces carried out a major overnight strike on Russia’s Black Sea oil hub of Novorossiysk, damaging key export infrastructure and sparking a large fire at the port’s oil terminal, a source in Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) told Suspilne on November 14.

According to the source, the operation on the night of November 14 was conducted jointly by SBU’s Alpha special forces, Ukraine’s military intelligence (HUR), Special Operations Forces, the State Border Guard Service, naval coastal missile and artillery units, and other elements of the Defense Forces.

The strike hit the Sheskharis terminal—Russia’s second-largest oil export center—damaging loading stands, pipeline infrastructure and pumping stations. A major fire is still burning at the site, the source told Suspilne.

Ukrainian forces also confirmed hits on a Russian S-300/400 air defense position at military unit 1537 in Novorossiysk, followed by significant secondary explosions.

“SBU and the Defense Forces are continuing to reduce Russia’s oil revenues. Every destroyed refinery or oil terminal means millions of dollars denied to the Kremlin’s war machine. We will keep depriving the aggressor of resources until it loses the ability to wage this war,” the source said.

Previously, it was reported that Russia halted oil exports from the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk after what authorities described as a major Ukrainian drone strike, two industry sources told Reuters.
