Russia halted oil exports from the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk after what authorities described as a major Ukrainian drone strike, two industry sources told Reuters, on November 14.

Novorossiysk is one of Russia’s most important export hubs for crude and other commodities. The attack is among the largest on Russian oil infrastructure in recent months and follows a wave of Ukrainian strikes on refineries and fuel facilities since August, aimed at weakening Moscow’s ability to fund its war, Reuters wrote.

Ukraine’s long-range air and sea drones have repeatedly hit Russian energy sites throughout the year, disrupting operations at Baltic and Black Sea ports, damaging sections of the country’s main pipeline network, and forcing shutdowns at multiple refineries.

Previously, it was reported that long-range drone strike reportedly targeted an oil refinery in Russia’s Saratov region overnight, sparking explosions and visible fires, according to monitoring channel Exilenova+, which shared footage of the strike.

Regional governor Roman Busargin confirmed the attack, saying there had been “damage to civilian infrastructure,” though he did not specify what facilities were hit. Residents captured video showing the sound of a drone flying overhead, followed by bursts of anti-aircraft fire as Russian forces attempted to intercept the target.
