Drones Reportedly Strike Key Russian Oil Facility Capable of Processing 140,000 Barrels a Day

Long-range drone strike reportedly targeted an oil refinery in Russia’s Saratov region overnight, sparking explosions and visible fires, according to monitoring channel Exilenova+, which shared footage of the strike on November 14.
Regional governor Roman Busargin confirmed the attack, saying there had been “damage to civilian infrastructure,” though he did not specify what facilities were hit. Residents captured video showing the sound of a drone flying overhead, followed by bursts of anti-aircraft fire as Russian forces attempted to intercept the target.

“An aerial threat was detected in the region,” Busargin wrote, later adding that drones had indeed attacked.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed its air defenses shot down 45 Ukrainian drones over Saratov overnight—a figure that could not be independently verified.

The Saratov Oil Refinery, one of the oldest and largest in southern Russia, processes between 6.6 and 7 million tons of crude oil annually—roughly 140,000 barrels per day—though its 2023 output fell to about 4.8 million tons.
The facility plays a significant role in supplying refined products to both domestic and export markets through the Volga transport network.

Earlier, a series of explosions rocked the Russian port city of Novorossiysk, igniting large fires at the Sheskharis oil terminal and reportedly hitting a local air-defense base.
Satellite data from NASA’s FIRMS fire-tracking system later confirmed numerous hotspots consistent with major fires in the area.
