Drones struck the Russian chemical plant Dorogobuzh in the Smolensk region, a facility considered important to the production chain of explosive materials used by the Russian military, according to images published by the OSINT community Exilenova+ on February 25.

The attack reportedly took place during the early hours of the night, with Russian monitoring channels first reporting unmanned aerial vehicles flying over the region at around 4 a.m.

Images circulating online showed a large fire burning on the plant’s territory, suggesting damage to industrial infrastructure. The extent of destruction and operational impact has not been independently confirmed.

The Dorogobuzh chemical enterprise specializes in producing nitric acid, ammonia, nitroammophoska fertilizer, and ammonium nitrate—industrial compounds that also serve as key precursors in the manufacture of military explosives.

Such materials are widely used in the production of TNT, RDX, HMX, and other explosive substances employed in various types of ammunition used by Russian forces.

Analysts note that disruptions at facilities producing these components can carry strategic implications, as they directly affect the ability to sustain ammunition manufacturing and supply chains during prolonged warfare.

Russia’s Defense Ministry acknowledged drone activity in the Smolensk region, claiming that air defenses shot down 11 unmanned aerial vehicles. Officials did not comment on possible damage to the industrial site.

The reported strike fits into a broader pattern of increasingly frequent long-range drone attacks targeting Russian military infrastructure, logistics hubs, and industrial facilities located far from the front line.

Earlier, Ukrainian long-range An-196 “Liutyi” drones struck a critical production component at Russia’s Metafrax chemical plant in the Perm region, damaging a core element of the facility’s methanol processing infrastructure.
