France Develops Jet-Powered Fury Interceptor to Outrun Shahed-Type Drones Three Times Faster

French precision-machining company ALM Meca has developed a jet-powered drone interceptor called the Fury 120 that it says is designed to shoot down suicide attack drones such as Russia’s Shahed, according to Challenges on January 27.
Challenges said the Fury was developed in under a year using the company’s own funds, without support from France’s Direction générale de l’armement (DGA), the government armaments procurement agency.

The Fury is about 1.1 meters long with a wingspan of a little over a meter, and uses a kerosene microjet engine to reach a maximum speed of about 700 km/h—roughly three times the speed of many of its intended targets—while sustaining maneuvers of up to 20G.
Thierry Berthier, a research associate at the Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan military academy’s research center and an adviser to ALM Meca, told Challenges: “There is no other product of this type in Europe.”

The announcement comes as NATO members on the alliance’s eastern flank have faced a series of airspace violations linked to Russia’s war on Ukraine, including incidents involving drones crossing into neighboring countries during large-scale attacks.
In a September 23, 2025, statement, NATO’s North Atlantic Council said several Allies—including Poland and Romania—experienced airspace violations by Russia and said it had held consultations under Article 4 after what it called a large-scale violation of Polish airspace by Russian drones.
Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine has been operating advanced interceptor UAVs like the P1‑SUN—a modular drone capable of hunting Shahed attack drones and supported by the Merops counter‑drone system—strengthening air defense against Russian UAV strikes.
