France will provide Ukraine with additional Mirage 2000-5F fighter jets and Aster air defense missiles in the coming days, President Emmanuel Macron announced during a meeting of the “coalition of the willing,” according to Le Monde on October 24.
Macron said France would “deliver additional Aster missiles, new training programs, and new Mirage aircraft in the coming days.” He emphasized that it is “very important to continue our efforts to support Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia.”
Speaking after the coalition meeting, Macron confirmed that Paris will also expand training initiatives for Ukrainian personnel. The French president stressed that the aid forms part of France’s broader commitment to strengthening Ukraine’s air defense and air force capabilities.

France has already supplied three Mirage 2000-5F aircraft to Ukraine, part of an earlier pledge to transfer up to six.
One of the jets was lost in July 2025 due to a technical malfunction; the pilot safely ejected and was rescued by a search-and-rescue team. Le Monde reports that Kyiv may ultimately receive between 12 and 20 Mirage aircraft, though the exact number remains undisclosed.
The Mirage 2000-5 is a multirole, single-engine, fourth-generation fighter developed by Dassault Aviation. The aircraft features a modern radar, advanced computing systems, and a laser-based inertial navigation system.
It can reach speeds of up to 2,340 km/h and carry 6,300 kilograms of payload, including AASM Hammer guided bombs and MICA air-to-air missiles.

Ukraine received its first Mirage 2000 jets in February 2025. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the fighters participated in combat as early as March 7, intercepting and destroying a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile during a large-scale air attack.
The new French package also includes additional Aster 15 and Aster 30 missiles for the SAMP/T MAMBA system—a joint Franco-Italian air defense platform similar to the American Patriot. France and Italy have already supplied Ukraine with such systems and continue to replenish their missile stocks.
Earlier, France announced plans to upgrade its Mirage 2000D fighter jets to counter long-range drones like the Shahed-136, drawing on Ukraine’s experience defending against similar threats. The upgrades may include integrating laser-guided 70mm rockets such as the Thales FZ275, following the US model of using low-cost precision munitions for drone interception.
